Class Descriptions

Each individual progresses in the practice of Iyengar Yoga uniquely. These class descriptions are a general guide to help you to find the classes best suited to your current yoga experience and personal circumstances.


Beginner / Level 1 : Basics

These classes, taught in a progressive format that builds from week to week, are ideal for those who are new to Iyengar Yoga. Learn the essentials of Iyengar Yoga practice that develop balance, strength, and mobility. Relaxation poses are introduced. After completing a Beginner and/or Level 1 series, students may be ready continue into Level 1+2 /Continuing and All Levels classes.

Level 1+2 - Continuing

Students continue to develop skill and confidence in their foundational poses, while also working with more detailed instructions. Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and back basic extensions are introduced.

Level 2 - Intermediate

Level 2 students have developed a strong foundation in earlier levels, and are familiar with basic yoga poses. Inversions are regularly taught in these classes, and an expanded repertoire of poses are explored. , including back extensions and pranayama, (breath practices) are developed. Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and its variations are a consistent part of the practice at this level. Sirsasana is introduced.

Level 2+3 - Experienced

Level 2+3 students have already developed a high level of insight into the practice of Iyengar Yoga through prolonged study and practice, and they have become confident and independent practitioners. Sirsasana (headstand) is a consistent element of the deepening work in these classes. A mature and cultivated personal practice is expected of those attending a dedicated Level 2+3 Class.

All Levels - Essentials + Foundations

All level classes work with a range of postures that are regarded as essential practices for all levels of practice for building general strength and flexibility.

Gentle - Easy Pace

An easy-paced class with a mild approach to deepening one’s yoga practice. These classes focus on a poses that improve mobility, balance, and concentration. Students must be able to get up and down from the floor. No previous experience is necessary.
